Lazimpat, Radisson Hotel Road, Kathmandu
A day tour combining a visit to Chandragiri Cable Car and Monkey Temple (also known as Swayambhunath Stupa) offers a great mix of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and panoramic views. Here's a suggested itinerary:
Pick-up from your hotel. Quick breakfast at a hotel, ensuring you're energized for the day ahead.
The drive to Chandragiri Hills takes approximately 30–45 minutes, depending on your location in Kathmandu. Enjoy scenic views of the Kathmandu Valley as you approach the hill station.
Chandragiri Cable Car takes you to the top of Chandragiri Hill at an altitude of 2,551 meters, offering stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Everest and Langtang ranges, as well as views of Kathmandu Valley. At the top, you can explore the surrounding area, take in the views, and have some time for photography. If interested, visit the Chandragiri Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Bhaleshwar Mahadev, located at the top of the hill.
Head to a restaurant at the base of the cable car or nearby to enjoy a traditional Nepali lunch or a variety of local cuisine.
After lunch, drive to Swayambhunath. It’s about a 20-minute drive from the Chandragiri area. Swayambhunath is one of Nepal's most famous and ancient stupas, offering both spiritual significance and incredible views of the Kathmandu Valley.
Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll see the iconic golden spire and the large eyes of Buddha painted on all four sides of the stupa. Climb the 365 steps to reach the stupa (or take a vehicle to a nearby entrance). Explore the temple complex, the surrounding gardens, and take in the views of the valley. You'll likely encounter the mischievous monkeys who live around the stupa, which is why the site is nicknamed "Monkey Temple."
After the visit to Swayambhunath, head back to your hotel or the location of your choice in Kathmandu, concluding your day tour.
